Allan Fung’s Plan to Take On Today’s Historic Economic Crisis
Right now, your family and thousands of others just like yours all across Rhode Island are having trouble affording groceries, home heating oil, the electricity bill, and of course those rising prices at the gas pump!
We are in the midst of one of the worst cost of living crises in over four decades. It is brutal for middle class families from Burrillville to Bradford. But I know how to fix it!
When I walked into the Mayor’s office back in 2009, Cranston was facing one of the worse economic crises ever – it was on the brink of complete financial ruin. It took a lot of hard work, but through fiscal discipline, targeted investments, and strong leadership we righted the ship. For three straight years, Cranston was named one of the Top 50 Cities to Live in America!
Fast forward to today, Nancy Pelosi’s wayward legislation and out of control spending has put inflation at 40-year highs! That translates into an over $6,000 pay cut for most families – forget about that vacation or those home repairs!
It’s time to roll up our nation’s sleeves and get our country back on track – just like I did in Cranston!
Here are my thoughts:
Curb Inflation and Lower the Cost of Living
Washington has a serious spending problem, and it is making everything cost more for families. Hundreds of millions of hardworking taxpayer dollars have been sent to bail out luxury resorts, and fund Nancy Pelosi’s pet projects like fancy upgrades to the Presidio Park in her hometown.
We need to learn to spend on what is absolutely necessary, and not cave into the progressives’ wishes and demands like Nancy Pelosi has done. I watched every single taxpayer penny going in and out like it was my own when I was getting Cranston back on track, and that’s the fiscal discipline we need in DC.
Conduct oversight of the Fed to ensure a gradual interest rate policy to avoid sharp financial crashes and 1980’s era like recessions.
Promote stability for business owners so that they invest in keeping jobs in this country.
Fight for Low Energy Costs and Restore Energy Independence
America has a lot of energy resources, and we need to use them so that seniors and families can afford to heat their homes. Under Nancy Pelosi and President Biden’s failed leadership, we’ve seen pipeline construction shut down, and permitting for natural gas ground to a halt. As a result, we have a country that is reliant on dictators and despots from to heat American homes.
Seniors and families on fixed incomes are seeing their home heating oil and gas prices soar. We live in the greatest nation in the world – we shouldn’t have Americans being forced to choose between putting food on the table and driving to work. Let’s fix this!
Tap domestic fuel sources to become energy independent again, including use of drilled but untapped wells.
Gradually and smartly invest in properly sited renewables.
Upgrade our grid and infrastructure to lower the risk of blackouts.
Cut through the red tape on American-made energy to diminish our reliance on unstable foreign regimes.
Modernize the Supply Chain
New parents have been under immense stress caused by the recent baby formula shortage, and it’s exhibit A in the need to fix our supply chain logistical issues. When goods can’t get from point A to point B – whether by air, train, boat, or truck – supplies shrink, and prices rise. We’ve all seen the bare store shelves. It’s heartbreaking for these parents. Let’s fix it!
Modernize and upgrade our ports – like right here at home at Quonset and Galilee – to allow for higher capacity and faster transfers.
Invest in our cargo rail systems to cut down on delays due to shuttered tracks.
Fix our bridges and roads to improve safety and reliability for our nation’s truckers.
Make more of the products we need every single day here in America, like semiconductors. We can welcome manufacturing companies to Johnston, Cranston, Warwick, and all across the district. I want to pay the American worker to build our products, not be reliant on unstable regimes overseas for our everyday needs.
